Last night’s event, sponsored by the KQES PTO, had an incredible turnout and was filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of fun. It was wonderful to see so many families come out to celebrate together.
Special thanks to families for the generous donations of cookies and juice 🍪🧃 — the treats were a hit!
A huge shoutout to the KQES PTO for sponsoring such a fun evening, and to Ms. Moradi for hosting the Henna tattoo station — a favorite stop of the night!
A few creative liberties may have been taken with the photos 😉📸, but the joy was all real. 💕

Black History Spotlight: Gladys West was a pioneering Black mathematician whose work helped make GPS possible.
Born in segregated Virginia, she became one of the first Black women to work at the U.S. Naval Proving Ground, where she used advanced math and satellite data to model the shape of the Earth — a key foundation for GPS technology we use every day.
Her contributions went unrecognized for decades, but today she’s celebrated as a Black history and STEM trailblazer who helped change the world.

Thank you for your flexibility and continued support. We truly appreciate our partnership with our families!

Good afternoon, King and Queen families and staff. This is Shante’ Harvey, Director of Professional Learning and Teaching.
Unfortunately, many of our roads are not in a condition to safely transport students; therefore, Wednesday, February 4th will be a remote learning day for students. Students will continue working on assignments provided by their teachers and will only be counted present if their completed work is returned. It is imperative that all assigned tasks be completed. Families may contact teachers if questions arise.
All staff are asked to report to work from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Meals will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, February 4th, a first-come, first-served basis from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Lawson-Marriott Elementary School and Central High School. Please go to the location that is most convenient for you.
On behalf of the division, thank you for your flexibility and continued support—we truly appreciate our partnership with our families.
Black History Month Spotlight: Virginia HBCUs 🎓
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were created to give Black students access to higher education when many colleges did not allow them to attend. These schools have helped educate teachers, leaders, and community changemakers for generations.
Virginia is home to five current HBCUs—Hampton University, Virginia State University, Virginia Union University, Norfolk State University, and Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Virginia was also home to Saint Paul’s College, an HBCU that served students for over 125 years before closing in 2013. Its legacy continues through its alumni and impact on the community.

This is Dr. Carter, division superintendent, calling with an update regarding our schools.
Well, Elsa from the movie Frozen has used her power of ice and snow on our back roads, school parking lots, and around our school buildings. She has called me with the new knowledge of love and she is sending "melting" our way. We do hope the groundhog doesn't see his shadow next week and we do not get any huge accumulation of snow this weekend. I think we may have a heat wave of 39 on Monday.
King and Queen County Public Schools will be closed with a remote learning day tomorrow, Friday January 30th. As Elsa says, "Let it go! Let it go! Can't hold it back anymore". Love being a ROYAL Tiger
