Based on the forecasted weather for tomorrow and wanting to ensure the safety of all community members and students, the Community Pride Day Parade is being rescheduled to October 21st, with the parade starting at 10am.
Get excited - it’s Homecoming Week! Make sure to buy your dance tickets during lunch blocks this week. They are $10/ticket and will not be sold at the door. We are looking forward to Friday night and hope to see you there!

KQPS October 2023 Outlook
September is Attendance Awareness Month! Health-related absences are one of the top reasons students miss so many days of school and can lead to chronic absenteeism. Occasional absences related to health reasons are to be expected. But absences can quickly add up when a child has an undertreated chronic health condition, lacks access to care, or experiences anxiety or other mental health issues. Navigating when to send a child to school post-pandemic can also be challenging. Attendance Works and the National Association of School Nurses developed some guidance for when to send students to school or keep them home - see the attached pictures for more information!
To help our families and staff members prepare for the expected arrival of the predicted tropical storm, we will release today, Friday, September 22nd, at 1:00 p.m. We want all students and staff to arrive home safely and with plenty of time to prepare for the impending storm. Again, we are dismissing school today at 1:00 p.m. Thank you and please be safe.

Today, September 21st, 12:30p-2:30p: Three Rivers Healthy Families will hold office hours to connect families to activities like Initial Assessments, Lactation Consultations, CarSeat Training, and Child Development Screenings. Children are welcome to come and color while parents and guardians receive information & resources.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, regular attendance is essential for students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school.
Please do your best to get your children to school each day, unless they are sick, and be sure to notify your school's secretary if they are going to be absent.

My name is Don Weik. I have transitioned from the field Geographic Information Systems to education. My background includes teaching overseas in South Korea to serving as a school counselor and pseudo administrator with Lancaster Public Schools. In the last six as an educator in Virginia I have had the pleasure of working at the elementary, middle and high school level. Now I am enthused to have the opportunity to serve the students and families of King and Queen County as Division Director of Testing and Director of Safety.
