    Dear Tiger Community,

Lawson-Marriott Elementary School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Seventh Grade elementary school with outstanding potential to provide an excellent learning environment for all students that enter its doors each day. To realize this vision, Lawson-Marriott Elementary School (LMES) must be a place where children are encouraged to take risks, where learning is nurtured by excellent teaching and the school climate is one of positive expectation and support.

The upcoming school year offers a new learning opportunity for each of our students and each of our staff members. To strengthen their instructional knowledge, each staff member spent the summer reading Rules in School by Kathryn Brady, Mary Beth Forton and Deborah Porter.  We know that we are not only educating for just learning but educating for life. We commit to providing an environment where each student is not only expected to achieve but taught how to do so with the skills of perseverance, resilience and self-advocacy. LMES will focus our efforts on ensuring that every student is fully immersed in literacy opportunities that create excellent readers, writers and seekers of knowledge.

Your child’s education is very dependent on the level with which the school and home are working in partnership to ensure his/her success. Please take every opportunity at home to discuss your child’s daily activities, to ask about what was learned, and to check his or her backpack for important notes and announcements. Giving your child a quiet space to complete homework and checking on his or her progress will show your support and convey your expectations for success. Whenever you have a question or concern, please contact your child’s teacher and discuss the issue by phone or set up a face-to-face conference. At Lawson-Marriott Elementary School, we truly believe that we are working together to help each child achieve success in school.

Consistent attendance is one of the key factors in a child’s ability to both learn new concepts and maintain knowledge over time. Our doors open at 7:45 a.m. and school dismisses at 3:05 p.m. Students are considered tardy if arriving after 8:00 a.m. For more information, please take a few moments to read the attendance section of the 2017/2018 Student Code of Conduct. We truly believe a child can reach his/her full potential when daily attendance is made a priority.

As we begin a new year together, please plan to attend one of our Back-to-School Nights. The information communicated on these nights will help your child make a smooth transition to a new classroom. Pre-K – 3rd Grade, August 30th from 6:00-7:30 p.m.; Grades 4 – 7, August 31st from 6:00-7:30 p.m. These events will serve as both our open house and back to school nights. In August, a notification will be sent with specific details for each event. We look forward to seeing you soon.
